Welcome To
Midway Fire Academy!

North Florida's Most Aggressive Fire Training Center!
Mission Statement
The Midway Fire Training Center is dedicated in educating all students
in a safe, supportive, & challenging environment, where they can gain the knowledge
and skills needed as a Firefighter and EMT.

History
The Midway Fire Academy is owned by the Midway Fire District, which was
established by the Florida State Legislature and is governed by five (5) local
officials.
In Spring 2006, Midway Fire District started their first fire academy class.
During and after the course, the district was inundated with requests to start
an EMT-B program. Many of these requests came from students enrolled in our fire
academy. The reason for most of these requests was because there was a long
waiting list to get into other area EMT-B programs. Students were waiting
several months, and sometimes as long as a year. So after years of hard work,
Midway Fire Academy finally began their first EMT academy in 2008, and it has
been a success ever since. Following this breakthrough, Midway Fire Academy also
branched out to include continuing education courses for area firefighters.
FIREFIGHTER MINIMUM STANDARDS

Midway Fire Academy is a State of Florida certified training center, able to teach the Firefighter I and II curriculum required to become a Florida Certified Firefighter. The program is very rigorous
and challenging. This program is 433 hours long for Firefighter I and II (excluding First Responder.) All students must pass the necessary physical exam and background checks required by the State of Florida
Bureau of Fire Standards & Training prior to entry.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN-BASIC

The EMT-Basic Program is designed to prepare the student for a
career in Emergency Medicine and to be certified in the state of Florida as an
Emergency Medical Technician. The student will also be ready for the National
Certification exam upon graduation. The program consists of lectures, labs,
clinical rotations and ride times. This 1994 D.O.T. National Standard Curriculum
incorporates all skills necessary for the individual to provide emergency
medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service,
pre-hospital provider and or other specialized service becoming a vital link in
the health care team chain.
CONTINUING EDUCATION

Midway Fire
Academy also offers various continuing education courses to firefighters in the
Northwest Florida area. Our Academy instructors are cross-trained to teach
professional courses such as First Responder, Pump Operator, Instructor Courses,
Company Officer Courses, and various other State approved courses.
