EMERGENCY MEDICAL
TECHNICIAN COURSE
The EMT-Basic Program is designed to
prepare the student for a career in
Emergency Medicine and to be certified
in the state of Florida as an Emergency
Medical Technician. The student will
also be ready for the National
Certification exam upon graduation. The
program consists of lectures, labs,
clinical rotations and ride times. This
1994 D.O.T. National Standard Curriculum
incorporates all skills necessary for
the individual to provide emergency
medical care at a basic life support
level with an ambulance service,
pre-hospital provider and or other
specialized service becoming a vital
link in the health care team chain.
Prospective students need to be aware
that the Basic Emergency Medical
Technician Program and career requires
that students are physically able to
complete all necessary asks, such as,
bending, stooping, working on their
knees for extended periods, working in
dangerous environments, doing CPR for
extended periods, lifting and carrying
persons and equipment in excess of 175
pounds, and other tasks requiring manual
dexterity and strength. This
program consists of nine (9) modules.
Each student will have 136 classroom
hours, 48 lab hours, 24 clinical hours
in hospital emergency rooms, and 48
hours of ride time with an Advanced Life
Support unit. CPR for the
Professional Rescuer is the only
pre-requisite for this course.
This course is held at Midway Fire
District Training Facility, located at
1801 Abercrombie Rd, Gulf Breeze, FL
32563. Class hours are Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday nights from
5:30- 9:30pm. Attendance is
mandatory. Class size is limited.
Insufficient enrollment will result in
course cancellation.
Prospective students are to print, and
bring the appropriate
application forms to the mandatory
orientation meeting held at the Midway
Fire District Administration Building,
1322 College Pkwy, Gulf Breeze, FL
32563. DO NOT BE LATE!
Following orientation, students will
then be required to submit paperwork and
tuition fees to Midway Fire District
Admin during the open enrollment period
posted. Students will be enrolled on a
first come, first served basis during
this period. Only completed forms and
full payment will be accepted.
CASHIER CHECKS AND MONEY ORDERS ARE
THE ONLY FORMS OF PAYMENT ACCEPTED AT
THIS TIME.
